Rob,
what is the crop. I recognise a similar crop which is grown here in Holland, 'koolraap'. The plant is grown here for its oil.

I often think of that day. I don't remember the details of the trip but alway remember going out of the car with Marlene to look at the field of yellow flowers. I have never seen that again, so I always thought it was not along the Albany Highway.

Janet - I guessed it was Albany Highway, as I could not imagine that the trip went anywhere else. I think Marlene was going home from uni or teachers college. However, I could be wrong, as I can't remember canola being grown along Albany Highway until many years later.
